Fun with Colors

So as the weather begins to heat up here in Arizona, I am trying to come up with indoor ideas to keep my little guys entertained. Jakob has been very interested in colors lately. He has known all the colors for some time now, however his new curiosity lies with mixing them. Everyday I hear "Mommy did you know blue and red make purple" or " Red and yellow make orange!" It all started with a red and blue magnifying glass set he got with a toy. He would put them over different colors and he would get so excited to see the new color made. Recently I bought him a DVD that teaches them about mixing primaries in order to get all the other colors... he is simply fascinated! So in my quest to keep us both in the cool indoors and entertained as the triple digit temperatures creep up, I came across a color mixing activity. Basically you use paint brushes and food coloring mixed with water to decorate a coffee filter. Once you are done with your masterpiece you turn it into a butterfly using a pipe cleaner! The boys had a blast mixing colors and painting the afternoon away! Here are a few photos of our fun:
